What Is Pulse Pressure?
Pulse pressure is the arithmetic gap between systolic and diastolic pressure. It reflects how much the arteries expand with each heartbeat.
As arteries lose elasticity with age, systolic rises while diastolic plateaus or falls — so pulse pressure widens naturally after ~50. Large studies link wide pulse pressure with cardiovascular risk, particularly in older adults.
